About the event
****NOTE*** we will not be showing explicit and graphic depictions of sexual violence. A majority of the scenes will be around the way child sexual abuse is talked about and responded to. Any more graphic depictions will be mentioned before each scene is shown.
A survivor-activist reviews scenes of child sexual abuse in films with comedian Mark O'Sullivan, writer and director of Channel 4's 'My Sexual Abuse: The Sitcom'. Here we will explore comedy depictions of Survivors of childhood Abuse in Film and TV, including discussions on why paedophiles are often used in comedy material, and what happens when we turn this on survivors. Scenes from Scary Movie (2000), The Inbetweeners (2009) and My Sexual Abuse: The Sitcom (2024). Previous knowledge of these films is not essential, but we recommend that you watch 'My Sexual Abuse: The Sitcom' before.
Snacks will be included in the ticket price. (think popcorn, chocolates fruit... the stuff you try to sneak into a cinema).
Please arrive on time as we will be discussing child sexual abuse and want to create a comfortable and disruption-free environment for everyone.
Please note: There will be a videographer filming the event, but ONLY the hosts will be filmed (so please don't worry about appearing on camera). At the beginning of the event, we will ask you if you are comfortable for your voice to be recorded if you ask a question, but will also provide anonymous options.
OUR HOSTS:
Sophia Luu is founder of Secrets Worth Sharing and a trauma-informed Designer. She focuses on topics people find hard to talk about in a joyful and playful way.
Mark O'Sullivan is a writer, broadcaster, campaigner, speaker and comedian. He wrote and starred in Channel 4's 'My Sexual Abuse: The Sitcom' which focused on a fictional account of his own experience of childhood sexual abuse and aired in 2024.

Standard Entry
For anyone who can afford to pay full price tickets, and is able to support the non-profit aims of Secrets Worth Sharing. Money goes towards hiring staff for at the venue, filming, editing time and payment for Sophia and Andrew to take part. All profits go towards the next film club. A discount is available for registered Platf9rm members.

This is a discretionary ticket available to anyone who, for whatever reason, cannot pay the full standard price ticket but would like to take part. You will not be asked to prove your financial or survivor status in order to claim this ticket. Please note: there are a limited number of concession tickets available so that we can break even at the event. If you can no longer attend, please let as know as soon as possible so we can give the ticket to someone else.
